Cheryl Gress (ccgr) – Founder/President/Editor-In-Chief
I’ve been playing video games on console since the Atari 2600 and on computers since the Commodore 64. I appreciate all kinds of games including virtual reality (as long as they don’t give me motion sickness!), platformers, rhythm, strategy, and First Person Shooters. If there is an option to disable blood and language, I’ll activate it. I don’t like games that promote political, sexual, or anti-Christian themes in them either. While I don’t shy away from Mature or Teen games, I love playing games that the whole family can enjoy. Together, Jason and I have three children (two girls and a boy) and were married in 1999. We started this ministry shortly afterwards when we wasted money on a video game that we were both convicted not to play anymore. This game contained occult rituals that were required in order to use magic. After discovering that there were little to no resources that let concerned Christians and parents know about objectionable content that can be found in games, we decided to start this site/ministry. It’s been going strong and has been continually blessed since! In 2015 Christ Centered Gamer became a 501 C3 Non-Profit.
Jason Gress (IBJamon) – Co-Founder/Vice President/Senior Editor
Jason Gress has been playing games since his earliest memories, the first of which was Space Invaders for the Atari 2600 at around four years old. He also has fond early memories playing PC games on an AT&T 8086 computer. He has been gaming ever since, being heavily involved in gaming in nearly every gaming generation, especially on PC, though he is no stranger to consoles as well. He has always had a knack for technical things, as he started working on PCs for upgrades and repair in his early preteen days, and build his own computer from scratch (without help) at 15, back in the dark days before internet access was common. Vocationally, he works as a Senior Linux Administrator, while moonlighting writing and editorial work for Christ Centered Gamer, which he co-founded with his wife Cheryl, whom he has been married to since 1999. They have two daughters and a son together. He currently serves as vice president and senior editor at Christ Centered Gamer. He also has a Computer Science Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. At his home church, Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church, he recently served a full term on the deacon board and looks forward to God’s next assignment there.
Anna Desmond (Auri1984) – Treasurer/Editor
My interest in video games goes back to when I was a kid playing on my dad’s MS Dos and Texas Instrument TI99. Later we got the Nintendo NES. It wasn’t until I met my husband that I became more of a “Gamer”. Some of my all time favorites are the Dragon Age Series and Skyrim! I love RPG’s! I am currently the Treasurer for ChristCenteredGamer.com. I am naturally good with numbers being an accountant so it seemed a natural way to use my skills to help with this ministry. I work as an Accountant for a large company based in Lake Forest, IL. I attend Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church in Lake Villa, IL where I have served in various ministries. My husband Mike and I have been married since 2007. In 2017 we adopted our first child, a boy that we named Simon! We love watching him learn and grow!
Michael Desmond (OrionStar1979) – Secretary/Contributing Editor
Mike Desmond has been playing PC games since his dad brought home a Commodore 64 with Zaxxon way back in the mid 1980s. Obviously, things have improved since his initial foray into the gaming arts, but Mike has always tried to keep up with the curve. Mike has been a Christian even longer than he’s been a gamer, and as his gaming skills have improved with time, so has his knowledge of the word of God and his relationship with Christ improved with time as well. He joined the board of directors of christcenteredgamer.com in 2015 and is happy to serve as their secretary, sometime game reviewer, and review panel editor. Vocationally, Mike is a graphic designer, using his hard earned Communications degree from the Moody Bible Institute to typeset flyers and brochures for a small commercial printer. But he aspires to greater things, like writing fantastic fiction and giving inspiring sermons. Mike has served as a deacon and an elder at the Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church and loves being a disciple-maker. He and his wife Anna have been mostly-happily married since 2007 and have an adorable adopted son, Simon, who Mike hopes to raise to love the LORD, other people, reading and video games in that order.
